Wedding photography Tips & Tricks
You might think that once you have booked your favourite photographer, your job is done, and you can sit back, relax, and wait for those stunning photos.
Although this is partially true, photographers can only capture what is in front of them. Below we are providing some tips and tricks to ensure all the conditions are right for your photographer to capture the most beautiful shots of your wedding day.
Lighting
It’s all about lighting! This is not necessarily something for you to worry about, as your photographer will be all over it. But there are some things you can do to ensure you have the best possible lighting for your photos.
- Think about the lighting at your ceremony. Standing in the full sun can make it very uncomfortable for you and your partner but full sun also isn’t your friend for flattering photos.
- Discuss with your photographer what time would be best for your portraits. This depends on your wedding location and time of year.
- If possible, allow time for 15 minutes of photos at sunset as the light is the most flattering then.
Getting ready photos
Make sure not only the room of the bride and groom or living area is tidy; as mentioned above, it’s all about lighting, and it could well be that your photographer thinks the best lighting is in one of the other rooms.
Hang your dress on a nice hanger. Your photographer will probably take some photos of your dress, and it would be a shame if it is on an ugly hanger...
Allow enough time between finishing hair and makeup and needing to leave. This way, your photographer can capture some images of you, your bridal party, and your family if they are with you while getting read
Group and family photos
Most photographers will ask you to do this, and if you are one of my lovely clients, I will be all over this as well -a must -have a group photo list.
First of all, this ensures no photos are missed. It happens. I have heard many stories of couples forgetting to get a photo with their grandparents. It is a big day, and as your family photos often take place straight after the ceremony, people will be busy chatting and saying their hello’s, and you will still be high on adrenaline and love.
Second, this way, your group photos can be executed in the most efficient way. A group photo takes about 2 minutes. So, 15 different group combinations is already 30 minutes out of your day. You don’t want things to take longer than needed. Having a list and a dedicated person to ensure the right people are in every picture can save a lot of time.
Have fun!
Photos speak the truth. If you are having a great time celebrating your special day with your partner, your images will reflect this. So, let go of the stress the day might cause, have a glass of champagne and enjoy having all your dearest friends and family with you.
This is also another reason to hire an on the day coordinator to take away the stress of the day!
